What it does and how you benefit
With Style Guide Targets, you can granulate your global Style Guide, and create variants of it to specifically target explicit departments, markets, campaigns, and more. Hide or add whole documents, pages, and blocks; help your stakeholders find the content that’s relevant to them.
Setting up Style Guide Targets
1. Define your targets
As soon as you enter your cover page, you’ll find the new target icon in the power bar, on the left-hand side. Click on the icon to get to the usage management page. Alternatively, enter the usage management page by clicking on your profile picture (bottom left) > “Usage Overview”.
Then, switch to the “Targets” tab to create new targets. You can define the target name, and add a description. It’s up to you to define which purpose you want to use the target function for. One use case would be to meet the demands of deviating cultural norms across the globe. Here, it would make sense to set up targets to differentiate between markets. Another use case could be to ensure that different departments within your company only have access to the blocks and pages of your Style Guide that they’re supposed to see.
2. Assign targets to users and groups
Once you’ve created your targets, you can assign them to users and groups, either manually or by sending public links. In case you opt for doing this manually, stay on the usage overview page, switch to either the user or groups tab, and tick the targets you wish to assign, as seen in the GIF below. If you want to share your targeted Style Guide via a public link, click on the share icon in the power bar on the left, switch to the “Public Link” tab, and select the targets you want the new user to see.
3. Modify your Style Guide sections
As a last step, switch to your Style Guide and assign Style Guide targets top-down. You can either grant access to whole documents, specific pages, or blocks. Simply switch to edit mode, move your cursor to the preferred Style Guide element, and the target option will appear. Then, choose which target should be assigned to this section. That’s it.
Note that editors are still able to see and edit everything. This is to make sure your Style Guide doesn't get messed up when moving around blocks because someone doesn't see all blocks. The targets feature helps in differentiating between viewer groups only.
