Slack integration for Frontify

This article explains what the Frontify Slack integration is, and how to make use of it

Updated over a year ago

The Slack integration is a feature that enables you to link your projects in Frontify with the Slack app. With the Slack integration, you’ll be able to receive notifications on project changes from other team members directly in your desired Slack channels. This article will show you how to enable this feature.

It’s important to note that in order for the integration to work, your company will need to have an active Slack account.

Start by creating a new project or select one that’s already created. From the Project view, head over to the power bar on the left and select the cogwheel for ‘Settings’. Click on the ‘Integrations’ option. In the Integrations instance, you should be able to see the Slack option under ‘Team notifications’ in an off mode; slide it to the right for on mode in order to begin the integration.

A new window will appear which allows you to activate specific Slack notifications, such as annotations, status changes, feedback request, etc. You’ll have the option to activate all, or just the ones that are most convenient for you and your team.

On the lower part of the same window on the Settings section, you need to include the WebHook URL in order to create the link to Slack. If you don't have this link beforehand, you can generate it by clicking on the ‘Create new’ option.

In case you need to generate a webhook URL you will be redirected to the Slack WebHooks generator page. Select the channel you would like notifications sent to, or create a new one.

The URL is then generated for you to copy and paste into the ‘Webhook URL’ field in Frontify.

After you paste the Webhook URL click on ‘Save,’ then a green circle should appear next to Slack in ‘Integrations’ to show it is working.

To test the integration, go to the project and select an asset. Based on what notifications you have enabled, you can create a test message or request feedback, for example. You can also tag people specifically using the @ before their name.

Also, if you change the status of an asset, a notification will be set to the slack channel.

The notification is created and then should appear in the Slack app within the assigned channel.

You are then able to reply to this update directly from Slack. Simply click on ‘Reply’ and you will be redirected to the selected image on the Frontify platform. You may leave a comment or request on the right-hand side of the image.

Whenever you leave a comment, a notification will be sent back to Slack for your team members to react to it.
