Guidelines export: PDF and print (Legacy theme)

Export and print your brand guidelines as a PDF

Updated today

Looking for the version for new themes?
See Guidelines export: PDF and print in the new themes experience.

The Guidelines export feature in legacy themes (excluding the cover page) allows you to print your guidelines or save them as a PDF. Exporting and printing follow the same process and are handled through the print functionality.

This article applies to legacy themes only. This feature is not available for customers using new themes.

Why use Guidelines export?

Guidelines often need to be shared, archived, or documented outside the platform. With Guidelines export in legacy themes, you can create printable or downloadable versions of your content.

Use it to:

  • Export guideline documents as PDFs

  • Print guidelines for offline use

  • Share documentation with stakeholders

  • Support basic archiving workflows

What makes it useful?

  • Document-level export: Export individual guideline documents with all their pages into a single PDF or printout.

  • Simple workflow: Use the same flow to either print your guidelines or save them as a PDF.

Common use cases

  • Share guideline documents with internal or external stakeholders

  • Print documents for workshops or offline review

  • Create documentation records

How it works

You can export or print your guidelines using the following steps:

  1. Click Share

  2. Open the Print and PDF tab

  3. Click Print

Frontify prepares your guideline for printing. A dialog will open where you can choose to print or save as a PDF.

To print

  • Select your printer and print as you would any document

  • Enable Background graphics in the print dialog to include colors and backgrounds

To save as a PDF

  • Select Save as PDF instead of choosing a printer

Important notes

  • This feature is only available for guideline pages, not cover pages

  • Exporting is only available at the document level

  • You cannot export all documents in a guideline at once

  • Using CMD + P (Mac) or CTRL + P (Windows) will only print the currently visible page

Tips

  • Export documents individually when you need to share or archive specific sections

  • For full guideline exports, use the new themes experience where exporting all documents at once is supported
