Metadata bulk export from Libraries

How to export metadata in bulk

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Do you want to easily extract, access, and audit all of your metadata (including other asset information such as asset titles, tags, etc.) from a Frontify library? Now you can, with our metadata bulk export option.

Select a library card from the libraries tab and navigate to the “Actions” menu on the top right, where you can find the option to export the metadata in the flyout.

Click on “Export metadata.” This will generate a CSV file that will be emailed to the requester.

*Please note that the download processing time is dependent on library size.

Estimated download time:

250K assets or more -> 15-20 minutes

50K assets nested folders -> 3 minutes

50k assets in flat folders -> 2-3 minutes

How to import the metadata CSV into Excel

CSV files can have many different formats, which means they require careful handling when opening them in Excel and other spreadsheet tools.

The CSV files exported by Frontify use a comma as a separator and are encoded in UTF-8

To open the CSV file in Excel:

  • Go to Data -> Get Data (Power Query)

  • Choose CSV as the source file

  • Set file encoding to Unicode (UTF-8)

  • Set Delimiter as a Comma (",")

  • Then have a look at the data preview, ensure that any special characters (eg Ǔ or æ) show up correctly

  • Click on Load

  • Finally, check your file - make sure there are no empty columns or inconsistent data
