Contentful integration (Old) for Frontify
Contentful integration (Old) for Frontify

This is a developer’s guide to configure the Frontify integration for Contentful.

Updated over a week ago

This help article refers to the oldest integration we built for Contentful. However, we built a new integration; you can find more information here. If you want to switch integration and pass to the latest version, please contact your CSM.

The Frontify integration for Contentful simplifies your content creation workflow by letting you access your Frontify brand assets from within the Contentful environment.

Read along to learn how to install and configure the integration.

Requirements

To use this integration, you will need:

  • An existing Frontify account

  • A content type with a field of type JSON object to hold the references to Frontify

Usage

Step 1: Install And Configure

Install the Frontify app from here or from the 'Apps' section within Contentful. Under 'Configuration', you can provide your Frontify URL in the respective field. The 'Default Access Token' is typically the access token of your Media Library. You can get it from your Media Library integration settings. You need to be an Owner of the Media Library to access the Integration settings.

Under field assignment, select the content type fields that you want this inegration to be used for. Please note that only compatible fields of type JSON object are displayed here. Click 'Install' to finish the installation and save the configuration. The Default Access Token is going to be used in all fields by default, but can be overwritten in the field configuration if needed.

Step 2: How To Use The Integration

To reference a Frontify asset from your entry, click 'Select files from Frontify' > select the Frontify assets needed using the dialog > 'Choose'.

Once done so, previews of your assets will appear in your entry.

For this integration, we use CDN links, which are unique for each revision. It means the url changes if the revision changes. In this way, while we prevent your website from slowing down, we also reduce side effects - if you change an asset in Frontify, this does not break your website unknowingly.

And that's already it. We hope you have found this article helpful.
