The faceted search function allows you to narrow down search results by applying multiple filters based on faceted classifications – simplifying the process of finding your digital assets. Read along to figure out how to set up your facets within the Frontify Media Library.

1. Add facets

If you have the right to edit your Media Library, you can directly add facets to the search bar on the frontend view. Just switch to edit mode, click on the filter drop-down (left from the search bar) > add facet. You can then add facets based on the metadata, and tags you defined, or other predefined attributes like the orientation of the picture, and the file type.

2. Edit facets

You might have set up your facets, and worked with them for a while, before recognizing that they’re not precise enough. That’s no problem at all. By clicking on the cog wheel next to the facet title, you can either change the facet title itself, and add/remove the filters defined for a facet. For the later, click on “Add Filter” and insert the new filter you wish to have in place.

3. Customize your facet view

Further, you’re able to place your facets in whatever way you feel comfortable with. By clicking on one of the plus signs on both side of a column, you can simply add another column. By drag and drop, you can further move your facets around.

Finally, you can change facet settings by clicking on the button “Change Settings” (picture above, on the bottom). Explicitly, you can change the width of your columns, and checkbox color – all to make you feel familiar within the Media Library.
