The Steg.ai watermarking app is a proof of concept integration that allows Frontify customers to apply visible and forensic (non-visible) watermarks to assets directly within Frontify. It was built by our partner Droxic and supports watermarking single or multiple assets and enables traceability of reused images back to their original source using Steg Trace.
This app is not publicly distributed and is available only on an individual, case-by-case basis. It must be privately configured and deployed within a customer environment. A valid Steg.ai API key is required to activate the integration. As a conceptual integration, functionality may evolve and it is intended for exploratory or pilot use rather than a wider production rollout.
Why use the Steg.ai watermarking app?
Trace reused or leaked images back to their original source
Deter unauthorized use and distribution through forensic traceability
Apply durable forensic watermarks that survive edits and transformations
Embed watermarking directly into DAM workflows
Support compliance, governance, and content provenance needs
What the app does
The Steg.ai watermarking app integrates Frontify with Steg.ai’s digital watermarking API to provide end-to-end watermarking and tracing workflows.
Watermarking capabilities
Apply visible watermarks (e.g. text overlays)
Apply forensic (non-visible) watermarks
Watermark single assets or multiple assets in bulk
Asset versioning and metadata
Creates a new version of the original asset after watermarking
Preserves the original file in version history
Stores Steg.ai metadata on each asset for identification and traceability
Traceability with Steg Trace
Identify reused or edited images
Match processed or transformed images back to the original asset
Detect forensic watermarks even after edits or format changes
How to use the app
1. Launch the Steg.ai watermarking app
You can open the app in two ways:
From the Apps section in the sidebar
From an asset via Asset Watermark → Steg
2. Apply a watermark to an asset
Open the asset you want to watermark
Select Asset Watermark
Choose one or both watermark types:
Visible watermark (e.g. text placed at the bottom of the image)
Forensic watermark (e.g. a custom identifier)
Click Generate
Processing may take up to approximately one minute
Review the watermarked version and click Save to overwrite the asset
Verification
You can switch between “watermark” and “no watermark” views for visibly watermarked assets
The updated asset appears in the selected collection once processing is complete
Forensic watermarks remain embedded even if the image is edited or converted via CDN links
3. Apply watermarks to multiple assets
Launch the bulk watermarking action
A progress dialog shows the processing status for each asset
The same watermarking rules are applied to all selected assets
4. Verify assets using Steg Trace
Log in to the Steg.ai dashboard
Navigate to Trace
Click Browse Files and upload an edited or transformed image
Steg Trace analyzes the file and matches it back to the original watermarked asset
Result: The system can successfully identify images even if they have been:
AI-edited
Converted into different formats
Served via CDN as derivatives of the original asset
Core capabilities
Integrates Frontify with Steg.ai’s digital watermarking API
Supports visible and forensic watermark types
Single-asset and bulk watermarking workflows
Asset versioning and metadata storage for traceability
Prerequisites
Access to Frontify with the Steg.ai integration installed
A valid Steg.ai API key configured in the integration settings
Technical notes & limitations
The Steg.ai dashboard currently has limited functionality (as confirmed by Steg.ai)
Despite this, the full workflow of watermark → edit → CDN transform → trace is supported
Automatic watermarking via Frontify Automations is possible but requires additional, customer-specific customization
If you’re interested in exploring this proof of concept or configuring it for your environment, contact your Frontify Customer Success Manager as it will require a manual installation.
