What is the Dropbox integration?
The Dropbox integration enables customers to continue using Dropbox as their primary upload environment while leveraging Frontify as their central Digital Asset Management (DAM) system.
It supports both large-scale initial migrations and optional ongoing synchronization — automatically transferring assets, folder structures, and supported tags from Dropbox to Frontify.
This reduces manual work and simplifies DAM adoption for teams with established Dropbox workflows.
Why use the Dropbox integration?
Many organizations rely on Dropbox as a fast and familiar way to upload and organize large volumes of assets. Manually migrating and maintaining those assets in a DAM can be time-consuming and error-prone.
The Dropbox integration helps by:
Automating initial asset migration
Reducing manual uploads and duplicated effort
Replicating folder structures in Frontify
Transferring supported Dropbox tags
Supporting scheduled, time-based synchronization
Lowering migration barriers for Dropbox-centric teams
What the integration does
The Dropbox integration provides a managed connection between Dropbox and Frontify.
Asset migration
Automatically migrates assets from Dropbox to Frontify
Supports high-volume imports
Runs in the background
Folder structure replication
Mirrors your Dropbox folder hierarchy in Frontify
Maintains structural consistency between systems
Tag transfer
Transfers Dropbox tags to Frontify (where supported by Dropbox)
Optional continuous synchronization
Depending on your configuration:
Initial migration only – Frontify becomes the system of record after import
Ongoing sync – Frontify continues reflecting Dropbox changes on a scheduled basis
How it works
Assets are uploaded and organized in Dropbox
The integration replicates the selected folder structure in Frontify
Assets are migrated automatically in the background
Supported Dropbox tags are transferred
If configured, changes in Dropbox are reflected in Frontify at scheduled intervals
The process runs in the background and does not require manual drag-and-drop uploads.
Technical considerations
File size limits
Recommended maximum file size: ~3 GB
Theoretical maximum: up to 5 GB
Very large files may be subject to transfer limitations.
Transfer speed
Transfer speed depends on asset size and network conditions.
Large migrations may take multiple days to complete.
Rename or move behavior
Due to Dropbox API behavior, renaming or moving files in Dropbox may result in the asset being recreated in Frontify.
Sync scheduling
For continuous sync setups, updates run at agreed time-based intervals.
Scope
In scope
Initial migration from Dropbox to Frontify
Scheduled, time-based syncing (optional)
Folder structure replication
Tag transfer (where supported)
Configurable sync behavior
1:1 sync (one Dropbox account or selected root folder to one Frontify library)
Out of scope
Self-serve configuration
Setup
The Dropbox integration is a managed setup.
Your Customer Success Manager will coordinate onboarding together with Frontify’s technical team. This includes:
Defining the Dropbox source (account or root folder)
Selecting the target Frontify library
Aligning on sync behavior (migration only or continuous sync)
Validating the initial migration
Availability
The Dropbox integration is currently available for early access customers on request.
