Understanding Search Types in Frontify

Frontify offers multiple search experiences, each designed for different use cases.

Updated this week

The three main search types

1. Library search

This is the search bar you see when you're inside a specific library page. It searches only within that library and is ideal when you know where your asset is stored. More information in the Help article here.

  • Where to find it: Inside any library page

  • What it searches: Assets within that specific library only

  • Best for: Finding specific assets when you know which library they're in

2. Workspace spotlight search

This is the global search available from your workspace navigation. It searches across your entire workspace, including multiple libraries, projects, and guidelines. More information in the Help article here.

  • Where to find it: Workspace navigation bar (top of your screen)

  • What it searches: Assets in projects and libraries, folders, and guideline content

  • Best for: Finding content when you're not sure which library or project it's in

  • Note: Only available to editors and admins

3. Cross-library search

This feature activates automatically when library search returns no results on the current library page. It then searches across all library pages within the same guideline.

  • Where to find it: Triggered automatically within library search

  • What it searches: All libraries in the current guideline

  • Best for: Discovering assets in other libraries when your initial search comes up empty

Tip: For the most accurate results when searching for assets, use the search bar within the library page itself. For broader exploration across your workspace, use workspace spotlight search.
