Can I customize the download sizes for my asset?

Adding image download sizes.

Updated over a week ago

Yes, you can define custom download sizes in Frontify by adding predefined size options that will appear for users when downloading assets from your libraries.

Adding custom download sizes

  1. Go to the backend of your Media Library

  2. Click on the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner and select "Usage"

  3. Scroll down to the "Add Download Image Size" section

  4. Enter a name for your custom size and specify the width in pixels

  5. Choose the method:

    • Fit: Maintains the aspect ratio while scaling down to fit the desired dimensions

    • Crop: Crops the image around its focal point to achieve the exact dimensions (requires both width and height)

Standard sizes ( small, medium, large) are available by default in some libraries (e.g. Media and Icon Library).

4. Click "Add" to name the new custom download size and define it in pixels.

Important Limitations:

  • The maximum download size available is the original image size

  • By default, the aspect ratio will remain the same as the original image

  • For images uploaded as TIFF, resized downloads will always be in PNG format

5. Click Confirm. The custom download size is now available for all assets in the Library with the original size larger than the defined custom download size.

Custom download sizes in the consumer view

Once you’ve predefined various export formats, your brand consumers can simply export assets in the right format by choosing the respective download size.

In the consumer view on the library frontend, users can hover over the dimensions to learn more about the resolution (dpi) to avoid print quality loss. In the example below, anything larger than 16.26 x 10.84 cm would start resulting in a worse quality for print products.
